EmergencyIn the wake of recent catastrophic events like the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in Southeast Asia, it is more important than ever to maximize preparedness. GATR’s high-bandwidth, satellite communications antenna technology (GATR-Com) is ideal for emergency response applications, providing quick recovery when land communication lines are down or compromised, or if satellite communication dishes are destroyed or damaged due to weather or terrorist attack. GATR has rendered assistance for Katrina recovery efforts and also assisted in battling the wild fires in the Southern California Mountains. GATR has also participated in several disaster and emergency preparedness exercises over the past two years. Humanitarian AidGATR ‘s inflatable satellite communication system has been used for situations such as those encountered in the less-developed countries served by the USNS Comfort – Humanitarian Mission, and hopes this type of communication system can become standard on missions such as the Comfort’s. The USNS Comfort stopped in 12 Central American, South American and Caribbean nations, where its medical crew provided free health care services to communities in need. The mission offered valuable training to U.S. personnel and provides the region a mobile, flexible, and rapidly responsive afloat medical capability. GATR’s participation in this effort was made possible by a partnership with the Naval Post-graduate School, in Monterey, California, with essential, on-site operation by Mr. David Hoffman, of Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). GATR is currently participating in a mission with MAF in Lesutho, Africa. |
